Taqueria Dos Amigos Reopens With Expanded SeatingPhotos: Walter Thompson/Hoodline

Taqueria Dos Amigos, one of the Inner Sunset's few fast-casual Mexican restaurants, reopened recently at 1342 Irving St. with a new interior that's more upscale than its former incarnation.

Located on Irving between 14th & 15th avenues., Taqueria Dos Amigos opened a few years ago in a space that was formerly a Russian market. As a holdover, the taqueria's owners kept the mercado, but as Yelp reviews indicate, many customers didn't appreciate the scant product selection.

During the renovation, workers laid a new tile floor, tore out a drop ceiling and removed refrigerated cases and shelving that lined the walls. To make use of the new space, owners have more than doubled customer seating, including three new booths. When we visited, a worker was hanging a new neon "OPEN" sign in the front window. "We have the same owner," said an employee working the register. "Same menu, same everything, but better."

Taqueria Dos Amigos had a mixed reputation among burrito aficionados. Yelp reviewers frequently decried the food quality, ambience and customer service. A new menu wasn't available when we stopped in, but look for the usual offering of burritos, tacos and more, plus beer, wine and freshly-squeezed juices —and let us know what you think if you stop in to the renovated space.
