Today: Three Twins Turns 10 With 'Name Your Own Price' Ice CreamPhoto: Three Twins/Facebook

Three Twins Ice Cream is celebrating a milestone: the Petaluma-based company turns 10 today.

As we've previously reported, Three Twins first opened in San Rafael on August 27, 2005. Since then, they've opened three other scoop shops, created 23 pint flavors and expanded to supermarkets around the world. Their Lower Haight shop opened in 2009, closed due to a fire two years later, then reopened in January 2014

To celebrate a decade of frozen goodness, Three Twins is offering “name your own price” scoops today at each of its four Bay Area locations. That means your Mint Confetti cone could cost as little as one penny or as much as, well, as much as you want.

Why pay more? Because 100 percent of today’s sales at the Lower Haight shop will go to Friends of the Urban Forest, a local nonprofit that plants trees and sidewalk gardens throughout the city.

This is the second time Three Twins has run a “name your own price” deal. Shortly after he opened the company’s first shop in San Rafael, founder Neal Gottlieb dedicated a day’s sales to Hurricane Katrina aid. To his surprise, the fundraiser was a success.

“Our fear was that people would short us,” said Brandy Schirato, Three Twins' community manager. “But no one paid less than the marked price. We ended up raising more than $1,300.”

What does the next decade look like for Three Twins? Company reps told Hoodline to expect partnerships with "like-minded individuals and organizations for some really fun collaborations," as well as a new flavor coming in March.
