Tikka Masala Pizza Gears Up For Another ReinventionPhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline

Changes are once again in the works for the restaurant at 1668 Haight, which is currently known as Tikka Masala Pizza. The Indian eatery with a tumultuous past is soon to relaunch, under the new moniker Tikka Fresh. After suffering a fire five years ago that shuttered it for over a year, the space has changed hands, names, and concepts a number of times, from Tikka Masala to Sarvi to Tikka Masala Pizza. Though the space wasn't listed for sale this time around, an ownership change was filed on July 29th, officially changing the restaurant's name to Tikka Fresh.

While the signs and the menu haven't changed yet, they will soon, according to Rav, who spoke from behind the counter last week on behalf of the restaurant. You may have already noticed some new work on signage and the front window.

Rav said that the name and menu change are intended to set the business apart from its many predecessors, which have bequeathed an unsavory Yelp reputation to the current business.

"When we started," Rav said, "we had a two-and-a-half star Yelp rating. I've been fighting to get it changed. The name change will give us a chance for a fresh start, to showcase what we're doing. It's really totally different."

As to exactly what will be different about the restaurant, or what the menu might offer, Rav had no comment. We'll keep you updated on any other major changes at Tikka Fresh.
