A 61-year-old man was killed after he and a 31-year-old man got involved in a "physical altercation" on Sixth Street between Market and Mission. According to police, the younger man stabbed the victim in the torso with a knife at around 10pm.

Officers from Tenderloin station responded to the call, and the victim was pronounced dead when he arrived at San Francisco General Hospital. The suspect was arrested.

SFPD confirmed with us this morning that this is San Francisco's 32nd homicide of the year. A report put out by Northern Station earlier this summer showed an increase in year-over-year citywide murders. From January to June of 2014, 14 murders had taken place, and over the same timeframe in 2015, 24 people were murdered—an increase of 71 percent. Last night, two Ingleside shootings which left two victims in life-threatening condition could add to those numbers.

When asked about the city's homicide rates, Chief Suhr told neighborhood reporters last month that the closure rate on homicides is improving, thanks to technology like Shotspotter, which speeds up police response times when shootings occur.

We'll update this article if we learn more about last night's homicide, including the identity of the victim.
