Last night, a scofflaw motorcyclist who was driving on the shoulder of northbound Interstate 280 at about 4:30pm avoided a CHP traffic stop and subsequently hit another motorist. After fleeing on foot, he decided to swim to safety in the China Basin channel near Berry and Fourth streets, only to be surrounded by CHP, SFPD and SFFD officers on jetskis, boats and land. The aquatic ordeal ended around 7pm, with the suspect in custody.
