North Beach Week: First Friday, Free Fishing, Music And MorePhoto: Kārlis Dambrāns/Flickr

Looking back at Hoodline's coverage this week, we spoke in-depth with Colin Miller of the Darkside Initiative (1827 Powell St.), took a look at the Phase 2 improvements planned for Telegraph Hill's rock slope, noted that there are new street ambassadors on the "crooked" part of Lombard to help tourists and neighbors, and took a look at whether North Beach will modify its current liquor license laws.

If you're sticking around this Labor Day weekend, there's plenty to do and see around the area and, since it's the start of a new month, that means it's First Friday time again tonight.

This month's special exhibits include TheDayMatters, which celebrates the art of Elke Behrens, at the Live Worms Gallery (1345 Grant Ave.), a unique display of antique combs and hair ornaments at Tom's Beautiful Sexy Hair (701 Greenwich St.) and Erik Sanada will be signing copies of his art book during his closing reception at Modern Eden (801 Greenwich St.). Keep an eye on First Friday's Twitter feed for the latest updates and events.
