Thanks to the folks at Sunset Piano, the traditional parlor instrument has been popping up all over town. Beginning this Tuesday, Tenderloin residents won't have to go far to catch a lively performance on the ivories—or give one of their own.

The Friends of Boeddeker Park, along with the Recreation & Parks Department, have partnered with the popular piano pop-up to bring a piano to Boeddeker Park for two whole weeks — Tuesday, Sept. 29 through Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Sunset Piano has been a popular new addition throughout the city. The Golden Gate Park Botanical Gardens celebrated their 75th anniversary with 'Flower Piano,' which placed 12 pianos throughout the gardens for all to play, including visits from acclaimed local and international musicians. Sunset Piano was also a regular at UN Plaza this summer, with the project's founder, Mauro ffortissimo, often painting live as musicians played the piano.

A special celebration featuring accomplished pianists will be held at 4pm Tuesday to welcome the piano to Boeddeker. After that, the piano will be available from 11am to 6pm daily, leaving plenty of time for professionals and novices alike to play to their hearts' desires.

The piano's hours are subject to change; a schedule of free piano lessons will also be announced. Be sure to keep up with the Friends of Boeddeker Park for updates.
