Castro Crime And Safety: J-Church Attack, Burglaries, Knife-Wielding Park-Goer, More [UPDATED]Today's police activity at U.S. Bank (Photo: Brian Ray/Hoodline)

The Castro had been having a relatively sleepy couple of weeks, compared to our last, busier crime and safety roundup. But over the past five days, there's been an uptick in incidents, including robberies, a Muni attack, and reports of a knife-wielder at Dolores Park.

Before we dive in, however, we have more "breaking" news of an incident at the U.S. Bank at 443 Castro St. Tipster Beau D. alerted us to SFPD activity in the area around 1:40pm. We saw police officers walking the streets, taking notes at specific businesses, and then entering the bank. Employees who were outside said that the bank was closed and that something had happened, but they declined to comment. A police officer also noted that "unfortunately something happened," but wouldn't comment any further. We called the bank and were told that they will reach out to us once they have a statement. For now, we'll have to wait for more details to shake out.

UPDATE, 10/15/15 - 8:40am: The SFPD confirmed that the incident was a robbery. The suspect, a man in his 40's, produced a note to one of the tellers. The teller complied with the note and gave the suspect money. The suspect then fled on foot. Police are investigating and no arrest has been made.

And now, on to your recent crime roundup. All information comes from SFPD reports, unless otherwise noted.

Overnight Hot Prowl

On September 29th at 1:53pm, officers responded to a home on 17th Street near Ord. A victim's home was burglarized the night before while they were asleep. The incident is under investigation.

"Domestic Dispute" Leads To Car Damage

Nextdoor member posted on a 4am "domestic dispute" that led to at least one vehicle being damaged near Noe and Henry Street on October 2nd. According to the post, a neighbor got into a domestic dispute with his boyfriend, and ran their vehicle into the parked car belonging to the witness.

"The driver ran, but my husband made sure the passenger did not. There were damages on his driver's side that cannot be attributed to my crash so if your car was damaged that night, you may want to call SFPD. My car is probably totaled."

Corona Heights Park Encampment Leads To Arrest

Officers discovered an encampment in Corona Heights Park on October 5th at 6:47am. As they spoke with two individuals, they discovered that one had a warrant for theft. The officers issued a citation to the individual who was clear of warrants and arrested the other suspect.

Daytime Home Burglary

Also on the 5th, a person's home was burglarized on Sanchez Street. The incident happened sometime during the day while the victim was at work, and officers are investigating.

J-Church Attack

Last week, we reported on an October 9th incident where someone "attacked" a J-Church Muni train at 18th and Church. The Muni driver was treated for minor injuries. The tip came in from Twitter user Alvaro Junior.

Robbery With Force

On October 10th, a man, 44, was assaulted and robbed around 2:15am near 18th and Collingwood. Two men and two women, all in the 20-40 age range, approached the man from behind, grabbed him, struck him several times, took his money, and fled on foot. No arrests were made.

Knife-Wielding Park-Goer

Both Nextdoor and Twitter users reported on an October 10th incident at Dolores Park around 5:30pm. One Nextdoor member mentioned an apparent "knife fight" involving chains and knives, while Twitter user John posted about an individual swinging a "butcher knife." We've been unable to obtain further information on the incident.

Assault With Glass

On October 12th at 12:45am, two individuals got into a fight near 18th and Castro. One man, 26-32, cut another man, 21, with a piece of glass and fled on foot. No arrest was made, and the victim was taken to Davies Medical Center and treated for a laceration to his head.

Aggravated Assault

A verbal argument led to a violent incident near Castro and 17th early in the morning of October 14th. During the argument, which occurred around 2am, one man, 20-30, stuck another man, 55, with his fists. The victim fell to the ground and was hit again. He lost consciousness, and the suspect fled the scene. No arrest was made, and the victim was taken to SF General where he was treated for lacerations to his face and hands, as well as his loss of consciousness.
