Capt. David Lazar writes in this week's SFPD Captain's Newsletter that extra patrols will be on duty in Fisherman's Wharf and North Beach for Fleet Week and the Italian Heritage Parade.

He also warns people about ongoing "blessing scams" and congratulates his officers for making 25 auto burglary arrests since Sept. 18th. And, Capt. Lazar posted on the station's Twitter account that officers conducted yet another traffic enforcement operation at Sansome and Green streets starting at 8am Thursday to cite motorists for failing to yield to pedestrians.

Now for a look at this week's major crimes in our neighborhoods, compiled from SFPD recaps.

Another ATM robbery

Yet another in a string of recent ATM robberies occurred at 9:07pm Oct. 2nd on the 700 block of Grant Avenue in Chinatown. After a man, 42, made a deposit at the ATM, a man of about 20–25 pushed him and withdrew money from his account, then fled on foot.

Camera stolen

On Russian Hill at Lombard and Hyde streets at 11:11pm Oct. 2nd, a woman in her twenties approached a 62-year-old man from behind, hit him on the head with an unknown object and stole his digital camera, then fled on foot. The man suffered pain to the back of the head, but refused medical treatment.

Man stabbed in back

A man, 34, was sitting down when a man, age unknown, approached him from behind and stabbed him in the back at 9:51am Oct. 3rd in the 600 block of California Street in the FiDi. The suspect fled the scene, and the victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Woman notices pilfering from purse

While riding the bus at Stockton and Clay streets in Chinatown at 5pm Oct. 3rd, a woman, 20, felt someone going through her purse. A man of about 35–40 took her wallet, and when she tried to stop him, he shoved her aside. He fled eastbound on Washington Street with her wallet and money.

Drug deal goes awry

A man, 24, went to a hotel on the 600 block of Broadway in North Beach at 8pm Oct. 3rd to meet with another man and supply drugs. When he arrived, two other men were hiding in the restroom. They tied up and pistol whipped the victim with a handgun, then released him to bring back another person. He went to the police station instead to file a report. The victim suffered a cut to his head and was taken to St. Francis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The following suspects were arrested in the case for various charges including robbery, false imprisonment, aggravated assault and conspiracy and possession of firearm by a prohibited person: Manuel Navarro, 36, of Walnut CreekRalph Noel Rodriguez, 43, of Clayton; and Andrew Ismael Rivera, 25, of Brentwood. The victim was familiar with Navarro, as he'd previously delivered marijuana to him.

Purse snatching

At 9:35pm Oct. 5th, a man in his twenties approached a 28-year-old woman on the 600 block of Bay Street in Fisherman's Wharf and grabbed her purse. She attempted to hang on, but the suspect ran to a white four-door BMW 725i with temporary plates and fled the scene. They made off with the purse containing a Chinese passport, credit cards, cell phone and money.

Aggravated assault

Two men, ages 20–25, entered a premise on the unit block of Drumm Street in the FiDi at 10pm Oct. 5th and attacked a man, 38, with their fists and feet until he lost consciousness, then fled the scene. The man was taken to  St. Francis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Woman stabbed after argument

A call came in at 5:56pm Oct. 7th after a woman, 46, got into a verbal argument with the girlfriend of a 46-year-old man, he went to her location in the 500 block of Bush Street in the FiDi, confronted her, punched her several times, pulled out a knife and stabbed her, and then fled the scene on a black bicycle. The victim suffered stab wounds to the buttocks and an abrasion to her face and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Robbery with BB gun

At Waverly Place and Sacramento Street in Chinatown at 4:47am Oct. 8th, three men (two age 40–50 and one in his sixties) approached a man, 48, brandished a BB gun and demanded his property. They took his money then fled the scene, but the first suspect dropped the BB gun, which was recovered by the responding units.

Suspicious package call

At 1:49pm Oct. 8th, a call came in reporting a suspicious package left on a pier railing at the dead end of Jefferson Street in Fisherman's Wharf. 

Arson at construction site

SFPD officers and the SF Fire Department responded to a call that a construction site was on fire at 9:15pm Oct. 8th on the unit block of Powell Street in Union Square. After the fire was extinguished, fire department stated that the fire looked to be intentionally set.
