Hayes Valley's La Boulangerie De San Francisco (Re)Opens TodayPhotos: Nuala Sawyer/Hoodline

It's been five-and-a-half weeks since the last La Boulange locations across the city closed their doors—but now, revived and rebranded cafe locations have begun their big comeback. Last week, Cole Valley's former La Boulange led the charge, and the Hayes Valley location reopened for business at 6:30am this morning.

We first brought news of La Boulange's impending closures back in June, when Starbucks (which had purchased the chain in 2012), announced that it would be shuttering all locations. Rumors that former La Boulange owner Pascal Rigo would be reopening select locations were confirmed when "La Boulangerie de San Francisco" was registered at 2325 Pine St., the original La Boulange location. Rigo also plans to reopen locations in Cow Hollow, Pacific Heights and Noe Valley.

The Hayes Valley location has undergone a slight renovation, with its signature green exterior paint job replaced by a pale blue. The wicker chairs that ran along the Octavia Street side of the cafe have been replaced with bright metal tables and chairs.

Inside, the space is more minimalist and modern, with white walls instead of the previous orange. Even the red-rimmed plates and cups have been swapped out for a simple white.

Luckily for fans of the food, the menu hasn't changed much. There are still the simple mini sandwiches in the deli case, with ham and brie or salami. Fresh pastries—both savory and sweet—are plentiful, despite this morning's long line. And the classic lunch fare of soup, salads and sandwiches is still on offer.

La Boulangerie on Hayes will be experimenting with a 6:30am opening time, as opposed to La Boulange's 7am, so if you're an early riser swing on by. It'll be open 'til 7:30pm daily.
