Inner Sunset Week: Hardly Strictly Bluegrass And Much More In The ParkPhoto: Patrick Giblin/Flickr

It's been a busy week in the Inner Sunset. In case you missed anything over the course of the week, here's a roundup of what went down in local news.

The weekend saw a memorable power outage on Saturday night, cutting off PG&E service to over 3,000 customers, mainly in the Inner Sunset. The culprit: a raccoon.

There's finally some news (and some rumors) about the fate of the former La Boulange spaces in neighboring Cole Valley and West Portal, but so far, there's still no word on the shuttered spot on 9th Avenue.

Meanwhile in restaurant news, CheeSpud, the potato-themed eatery on Irving near 19th Avenue, is on the market, and the former Man Hing Market on 9th Avenue is also set to become a new restaurant, pending approval.

Finally, you may have walked by The Mark Music Studio on 9th Avenue before. We got to know owner Andrew Cohen and learned more about the services he offers to everyone from kids to pros.

Fall is here and the days are beginning to grow shorter, why not spend some time in Golden Gate Park this weekend? There are quite a few options to keep you entertained in this all-park edition of our weekend events guide.

Friday, October 2nd

The fifteenth Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival begins Friday morning and continues through the weekend. This free annual festival was a gift to San Francisco from Warren Hellman, and has continued to be funded by his estate after his 2011 death. You'll find the stages at Hellman Hollow (formerly Speedway Meadow) and Lindley Meadow in Golden Gate Park.

Be prepared for crowds: in previous years, the cumulative number of attendees over the three-day event has been estimated to exceed the entire population of San Francisco.

This weekend is also Sunset and Parkside residents' chance to visit the California Academy of Sciences for free, as part of its Neighborhood Free Weekends program. If you reside in ZIP codes 94122 and 94116, come check out the butterflies and fish and watch Claude the albino alligator hold court in his swamp.

Afterward, you can walk across the Music Concourse and check out this week's free Friday Nights at the de Young museum event, celebrating the artistry of Pacific Islander tattoos.

Saturday, October 3rd

In addition to the continuation of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and free admission to the California Academy of Sciences, there's also an opportunity to help beautify the park and meet fellow gardening enthusiasts by volunteering with the Kezar Triangle Community Garden Volunteer Work Party from 9am-noon.

A guided tour of the trails near Stow Lake is another free option in the park. Wear good shoes and meet at the Stow Lake boathouse at 10am.

Whether you're a vegetarian or omnivore, you may find something to make you hungry at the World Veg Festival, a plant-based event being held from 10am-6pm both Saturday and Sunday at the County Fair Building, near 9th Avenue and Lincoln Way. General admission tickets are $10; kids, seniors and those with military IDs get in for $5.

Sunday, October 4th

Hardly Strictly, free Academy of Sciences admission, and the World Veg Festival all continue today, but be sure to make time in your schedule to see the final performance of the 133rd season of The Golden Gate Park Band, which Hoodline profiled earlier in the season. Keeping with tradition, their grand finale will be an all-request program. The show is at 1pm, at the Spreckels Temple of Music at the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park.

Monday, October 5th

If you're interested in or concerned by the state of local businesses in the neighborhood, you should come to the Inner Sunset Park Neighbors Quarterly Town Hall to hear a panel forum on the subject, moderated by Hoodline's own Walter Thompson. The event starts at 6:30pm at the County Fair Building.

Have a great weekend!
