After months of construction, Philz Coffee has moved into its new digs at 549 Castro St. today.

The significantly larger space welcomed a steady flow of customers as we stopped by to check it out and chat with manager Richard Kim.

Kim explained that the new space represented a great opportunity compared to the old location on 18th Street. "When we moved into 18th Street, we were using a small box of an existing space, and had to add everything to make it function," he said. "With the new space, we were able to plan it out from the ground up. We now have four coffee stations, rather than two at the old space, which helps us prep things much faster."

The new location also allows for food items. "We now have breakfast burritos, bagels, and breakfast sandwiches, as well as the pastries we had before," Kim told us. "We'll be slowly adding more variety to all of our offerings as well."

The interior has carried over some of the charm that the old space had, with photos of customers and employees adorning the walls, and unicorns peppered throughout the space.

There's now ample indoor seating, with a large window looking out on Castro Street. Kim told us to keep an eye out for outdoor seating as well. "We'll have tables and chairs outside in about 10 days."

The only thing that visibly appears to be unfinished is the exterior, which Kim said will be painted this week sometime.

Over on 18th Street, the old location is now officially closed, with signage directing people to the new Castro Street space.

Philz Coffee is open Monday through Friday from 6:00am-8:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 7:00am-8:00pm. They are hiring as well, so stop by to learn more about applying.
