Police and SWAT personnel responded to the area of 10th and Harrison streets for what SFPD public information officer Grace Gatpandan described as a "critical incident" this afternoon.

She reports that an auto theft suspect ran from his vehicle after being stopped by CHP and into a building, which we've identified as 385 10th St., before emerging from the building's window.

Police are currently talking to the man as he sits on a third-floor window ledge. Crash pads have been put on the pavement below.

10th Street is currently closed between Howard and Harrison, and SFMTA reports that delays and re-routes of bus lines are in effect.

Update, 5:45pm: Negotiations continue.

Update, 6:25: Officer Gatpandan reports via tweet that the suspect has been taken into custody. A cat which belonged to the suspect seems to have been the key player in bringing the negotiations to a close.
