SFPD Central Station Capt. David Lazar is recovering at home after being injured in a collision last night at the intersection of Broadway and Steiner Street in Pacific Heights.

The information was released on the SFPD Central Station Twitter account,  and Lt. Brien Hoo, who will be the acting captain until he returns, confirmed to us that Capt. Lazar was rear-ended by a drunk driver while on duty in an unmarked squad car, returning from a critical incident.

The captain broke a rib and had soft tissue damage, and has been released from the hospital and is resting at home. He'll be off duty for at least a week, perhaps more, Lt. Hoo said.

The driver was charged and is in custody, but Lt. Hoo hadn't seen the report and didn't have any further information about the driver. He knew the driver either ran a stop sign or red light. We'll update the story when we get details.
