SFPD investigators are looking into two separate crimes that occurred this weekend in Golden Gate Park, where an estimated crowd of 750,000 gathered for the 15th annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival.

On Friday night at 10:30pm, officers from Richmond Station responded to a report of a robbery, in which a 31-year-old female victim was taken to St. Mary's Hospital after being struck in the back of the head. The victim lost consciousness; when she came to, her backpack, wallet, keys and money were gone. The victim was treated for lacerations to the head and a sprained wrist.

On Saturday morning at 9:15am, someone walking in the park called SFPD to report a body near the intersection of JFK and Chain of Lakes Drive, a few hundred yards away from the festival's performance stages. Police said the victim is a white female, aged 25 to 35; KRON4 reported that the victim bore signs of blunt-force trauma, and didn't appear to be part of the transient population that sleeps in GGP.

Update, 10/7: The Chronicle reports that the victim was 23-year-old Canadian visitor Audrey Carey. She had recently left hometown Quebec on a solo trip to the United States, and was planning on visiting Europe next.

We've reached out to SFPD for additional details, and will update this story when more information is available.
