A 51-year-old woman was shot and killed on Mason Street near Eddy last night.

According to an SFPD media alert, SFPD responded to 100 block of Mason Street at approximately 8:08pm after hearing reports of a shooting in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a woman with gunshot wounds to her upper torso. Despite officer's attempts to revive her with CPR, she died at the scene. Details on the identity of the victim have not yet been released.

According to the SFPD, officers have identified and detained a person of interest in the case. [Update, 5:30pm 10/8: The SFPD has identified the subject as 62-year-old Anthony Crivello of San Francisco. Crivello was booked into county jail on charges of murder, felon in possession of a firearm and two outstanding traffic warrants.] If anyone saw anything, they're encouraged to call the SFPD's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444. 

The shooting marks the city's 37th 39th homicide of the year, and occurred in a generally well-trafficked area—one block from Mikkeller and Piano Fight, and only two blocks from the Westfield Shopping Centre.
