Castro Crime And Safety: Road Rage Attack, Robberies And MorePhoto: torbakhopper/Flickr

The Castro has been relatively quiet compared to our last crime and safety roundup. That said, the neighborhood still saw a mix of news, including a road rage incident, a report of a pedestrian possibly struck by a vehicle, and some robberies, as well as safety resources for possible flooding over winter. (All information comes from SFPD reports, unless otherwise noted.)

Duboce Road Rage

Tipster Beau F. sent us the following message about a November 3rd incident involving another driver.

Last night I was a victim of a crime. While driving home near Duboce Park, I honked at a car just stopped in the street with no indication of turning or anything. I honked again and this guy freaked out on me. He got out of his car, approached my driver side and reached into my car and punched me...! WTF!! I blacked out and when I came to he was driving off as I got his plates. I then followed him while on the phone with 911. He parked his car and ran! After the police and ambulance arrived I was settled down after being checked out. This Ahole is going down and look forward to facing him again in court.

Beau included the following photo of the person he said was his assailant. (Ed. note: We've removed the photo for privacy reasons.)

We reached out to the SFPD for information on this and have yet to hear anything.

Church and 15th Pedestrian Incident

We also received a tip from Caitlin G. about a November 7th incident involving an injured pedestrian around 7:20pm.

person was lying on the road in the Church southbound lane, just south of the intersection. There was a car stopped with blinkers on right next to the person. My guess is that the car hit a person walking across Church, but I don't have anything except the layout of the scene to back that up. A minute or two after I passed, a firetruck and then an ambulance arrived.here were several people gathered around, already there helping out and emergency response arrived after a few minutes. Scary day! :(

We have no additional information from the SFPD at this time, but will update if we hear more.

Cumberland Robbery Leads To Arrest

On November 8th at 9:23pm, a man, 18, was leaving Dolores Park and was approached by another man, 27, near Church and Cumberland. The older man asked the younger man to borrow his cellphone. The suspect then proceeded to grab the younger man's cellphone, and fled on foot to a vehicle that was occupied by another man, 30, and a woman, 47. The SFPD tracked the phone and pursued the vehicle. All three suspects were arrested and the phone was recovered.

Gold Necklace Robbery

Another robbery occurred a day later, on November 9th at 2:40am near Castro and 18th. A man, 43, was approached by another man, age 20-30. The younger man grabbed two gold necklaces off of the victim and fled the scene. No arrest has been made.

Flood Prevention And Safety

As chances of high levels of wet weather increase, San Francisco Public Works is giving away free sandbags on Saturday, November 21st, at five locations around the city. Residents can pick up 10 sandbags with proof of residency, and you can also get the bags throughout November at the Public Works Operations Yard at 2323 Cesar Chavez St. from 8am-3pm, Monday through Friday. Public Works also reminds neighbors to report blocked or clogged storm drains by calling 311.
