Police Investigating Graffiti At Hayes Valley School As Possible Hate CrimeImage: Google

The SFPD is investigating the possibility of a hate crime in the case of graffiti symbol painted onto the side of the French-American School in Hayes Valley. According to a press release sent out by the SFPD this afternoon, the vandalism of a wall and playground surface is thought to haven taken place overnight.

The symbol is from the flag of the Five-Percent Nation, an organization founded by a former member of the Nation of Islam. Its appearance is seen as particularly notable in light of the recent ISIS attacks in Paris on Friday. "The SFPD Special Investigation Division is actively investigating this incident to determine if it amounts to a hate crime," stated an SFPD press release.

According to KRON, the image was visible from the street, but is now covered up with a black tarp.

SFPD asks anyone with information to call the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text tips to TIP411.
