While we don't report on every crime, we do our best to keep you informed of major crimes and safety concerns in the neighborhood. Here's a selection of crimes reported around SoMa within the second half of November. All details are pulled from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.

Shootings

On Nov. 25th, a man in his 20s was shot several times in the leg in the parking garage at Fifth and Mission streets. SFPD Officer Carlos Manfredi told CBS San Francisco that the shooting, which occurred around 5:30pm, was not random. The victim was taken to the hospital; the suspect, also a man in his 20s, has not been arrested.

As we reported last week, a bullet shot from the I-280 off-ramp shattered the window of a home on the 400 block of Berry Street at 2:30am on Nov. 22nd. The bullet lodged in a mirror; there were no injuries, and the shooter was not apprehended.

Stabbing

A 38-year-old man was transferred to the hospital at about 2:17pm on Nov. 25th with a life-threatening stab wound to the abdomen. The victim was found on the 200 block of Seventh Street. Due to his condition, he could not give a description of the suspect or other details of the crime.

Robberies

A man, 35-40, pepper-sprayed a shop employee and stole camping supplies at about 8:15pm on Nov. 25th, on the 800 block of Brannan Street. (The report doesn't specify, but given the items stolen, it's likely the location was the REI on that block.) As the employee was ringing up the supplies, the suspect shot him in the face with the pepper spray, grabbed the items and fled in an unknown direction. The suspect was not apprehended.

At 2:10pm on Nov. 23rd, a 33-year-old woman was walking at Seventh and Mission streets when she was pushed to the ground from behind by an unknown suspect. The suspect grabbed her backpack and fled the scene; no arrest was made.

Arson

Just after midnight on Nov. 30th, officers on the 400 block of Tehama Street saw a man, 38, setting a bottle on fire at the base of a metal door. The metal door was damaged by the fire, and the officers were able to take the suspect into custody.

SFPD officers also extinguished a small fire at about 5:30pm on Nov. 27th. It occurred in a doorway on the 300 block of Townsend Street. There were no damages, injuries or suspects.

Couple Charged In Alleged Hate Crime

KTVU reports that the San Francisco couple accused of assaulting a transgender woman on Nov. 15th at Eighth and Mission streets have pled not guilty, and will return to court for a preliminary hearing Dec. 2nd. According to police, the altercation began with homophobic and transphobic slurs aimed at the transgender victim, Samantha Hulsey, and her partner.

The female suspect, 42-year-old Rebecca Louise Westover, then allegedly threw a hot cup of coffee on Hulsey, which led to a fistfight between the two. The fight escalated when the suspect's partner, Dewayne Edward Kemp, got involved as well, allegedly punching Hulsey four times in the face. The couple's defense attorney claims that the suspects acted in self-defense, after Hulsey barged between them on the street and used a racial slur.
