'Tacos Cala' Brings Back-Alley Lunchtime Tacos To Hayes ValleyPhoto: Cala

Today, Mexican restaurant Cala, which opened on Fell Street in September, launched a lunchtime taqueria in its back alley. The spot has been christened "Tacos Cala,"and will serve tacos de guisado—a form of homestyle street taco typical to Mexico City, from which owner Gabriela Cámara hails.

Soft corn tortillas will be filled with a variety of stews, with daily meat, vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. Beverages at Tacos Cala will include seasonal aguas frescas, iced horchata, and beer and wine.

Tacos Cala will be open Monday-Friday, 11am to 2pm 3pm, in Hickory Alley (between Franklin and Van Ness). Dining is a standing-room-only affair, with tall tables for munching.
