After months of construction, a new tenant is headed to 651 Divisadero St, the former location of Cara Glass & Sash. Tanner Goods, a leather goods and accessories shop from Portland, will softly open later this week.

Cara Glass & Sash vacated 651 Divisadero St. at the end of May, after 24 years of serving customers by creating custom window sashes (the store is now located at 3032 Taraval St.). Nextdoor Your Scents Trading, an incense and sundries store that operated out of 645 Divisadero for 33 years, opted for a buy-out in May to end its lease early.

Construction has been taking place at both storefronts for months, but it wasn't until last week that news of a new tenant emerged.

Tanner Goods will sell a variety of items, ranging from everyday bags like the Voyager Daypack ($300) and men's and women's wallets ($55 to $190) to bike accessories such as handlebar bags ($150). All items are handmade in Portland using American-sourced leather. The company operates all under one roof, with designers, craftspeople, and skilled laborers working in the same space; its philosophy is all about creating quality items that are "worth holding onto."

In addition to carrying its own products, Tanner Goods will also feature items by small crafters such as A Kind of Guise, men's shoe company Rancourt & Co., and clothing manufacturer Rogue Territory

“San Francisco is a city we have strong ties to,” said Sam Huff, Tanner Goods Creative Director and co-founder, in a press release. “One parent grew up in Palo Alto, the other in Cupertino. And although my brother and I were born and raised in Oregon, I visited the bay every summer to spend time with my extended family. It was my second home, of sorts.”

Divisadero Street will mark Tanner Goods' third store; it already has shops in Portland and Los Angeles. The team is working around the clock to get things open, and the shop may be open for business as early as this Wednesday. Saturday, December 5th will see the official grand opening for the new store.
