French-Inspired Linus Bikes Rolls Into Hayes ValleyPhotos: Nuala Sawyer/Hoodline

We first broke news of Linus Bikes coming to the neighborhood back in October, and on Friday the bike shop officially opened its doors at 325 Hayes St. The former Lotus Bleu storefront has been transformed from a colorful textile store to a modern, streamlined space, showcasing many of the bikes from Linus's collection.

This is the second brick-and-mortar Linus Bikes location in the U.S.—the first is in Venice, CA. “It has long been a dream of ours to open a second store in San Francisco,” said Adam McDermott, founder of Linus Bike, in a press release about the store opening.

“As American cities go, San Francisco has one of the most developed and mature bicycle cultures. We’re super excited to contribute to this community and learn from it. San Francisco is also a forward-thinking and conscious place that reciprocates concerns we hold dear… community, environment, health and well-being. We feel at home here.”

Linus Bikes' designs are inspired by French bikes from the 1950s and '60s. Heavy and sturdy, the steel frames are made for bumpy city roads. Built-in accessories on some models, such as fenders and racks, cater to bumpy roads or wet weather.

Bikes aside, the shop also carries a variety of cycling accessories, including baskets, lights, and bottle cages, as well as water-resistant panniers, backpacks, handlebars and tool rolls.

Linus Bikes is in many ways similar to San Francisco's own Public Bikes—located just two blocks away. But for those looking for a city-appropriate commuter bike, you now have more options than ever.

Linus Bikes is open daily at 325 Hayes St. Hours are 11am-7pm Monday through Saturday, and 11am-6pm on Sundays.
