Longtime Castro dining, drinking, and event establishment Harvey's is taking a week-long break this coming week in order to makeover its space and unveil a new logo and menu, according to a press release sent out today. 

The bar/restaurant, previously known as The Elephant Walk in the '70s and '80s, opened as Harvey's in 1996, in honor of the late district supervisor and human rights leader Harvey Milk.

We spoke with Harvey's General Manager Steve Porter to learn more about the changes ahead.

"The interior will look completely different," Porter told us. "The dining room will have all new surfaces, finishes, and textiles."

In terms of the new menu, Porter said that a lot of thought and work is going into expanding appetizer and dinner options. "We'll be offering things like mini gyros, pork belly lollipops, stuffed mushrooms, and hushpuppies," he explained.

The closure begins on Monday, December 21st (tomorrow), with the reopening planned for the following Monday, December 28th, at 11am.

Above all, Porter said that he's enthusiastic about the changes. "We want to continue to provide value to the neighborhood, and we're very excited for what lies ahead."
