Merch, the small boutique which has occupied 629 Haight St. since February of 2010, will go on an indefinite hiatus starting Sunday, Jan. 10th.

The building that houses the shop is about to undergo a seismic retrofit, forcing Merch to vacate the space. Owner Yong Cho tells us she hopes to re-open Merch after the retrofit is complete, though it will require negotiating a new lease. Construction is expected to take at least six months.

In the meantime, all of Merch's inventory, including clothing, housewares, gifts, children's books, greeting cards and more, is on sale. You'll be able to find many Merch items online-only starting Jan. 3rd, so Cho suggests that shoppers swing by the store before then for the best selection of remaining merchandise. Cho also says she'll be selling the store's fixtures and furniture, in an effort to quickly clear out the space.

While the retrofit is in progress, Merch might pop up in a temporary home if an appropriate space can be found. Anyone with leads is encouraged to contact hello [at] shop-merch {dot} com.

Merch's regular hours are 1pm to 7pm Monday-Friday, 11am-7pm Saturdays, and 11am to 6pm Sundays.
