Strut Center Sets Opening DatePhoto: GCI General Contractors

Our ongoing coverage of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation's (SFAF) new Strut Center at 470 Castro St. has left many wondering when the space will open. Strut’s windows remain glazed with its 'temporary' teal photographs and graphics, eerily silent against the lively day-to-day of the Castro’s busy main drag. What gives?

We reached out to SFAF Director of Communications Andrew Hattori, who told us that Strut has been waiting since October for California to approve its license to legally operate as a clinic. The building had long been delayed for previous zoning and permitting approval from the city, and apparently couldn’t catch a break when it came to regulation from the state’s medical authorities.

That being said, Hattori said that they finally have a date for their formal opening: Monday, January 4th, 2016. Prepare to ring in the new year by ushering in a new era of HIV testing, prevention, and support for those at risk for and living with HIV. Learn more about Strut on their website.
