While we don't report on every crime, we do our best to keep you informed of major crimes and safety concerns in the neighborhood. Here's a selection of crimes reported around the Tenderloin over the past two weeks. All details are pulled from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.

Stabbings

A fight between two women ended with one hospitalized and the other arrested at about 7:40pm Dec. 2 at Golden Gate and Leavenworth. During the fight, the suspect, 53, stabbed the victim, 35, in the arm. Police arrived on scene shortly after, and arrested the suspect.

At about 4:40pm Nov. 30th, a man in his late 20s was stabbed repeatedly while using the restroom at the Main Public Library. As we previously reported, the suspect kicked in a restroom stall door and stabbed the victim repeatedly in the head and face. The Examiner also reports that witnesses said that the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Louis Kessler, and the victim were seen fighting outside the library before the attack, potentially over a black a bag the suspect claimed was stolen from him. Bystanders and a "health and safety associate" were able to subdue the suspect, locking him in a security room, until SFPD arrived and took him into custody.

A man was stabbed in the chest at 3am Nov. 29 at Seventh and Market streets. The suspect, a 50-year-old man, approached the victim, 24, stabbed him in the chest and fled on foot. The victim refused to provide police with further information.

A 46-year-old woman was lacerated on her forearm at 4:30am Dec. 8th at Hyde and Golden Gate. According to the police report, she was "engaged in activity" with a man, 50, who was "not satisfied" and brandished a knife. A struggle ensued, causing the injury. The suspect was arrested, and the victim was transported to the hospital.

Death Threat

SFPD officers swiftly arrested a man who threatened to murder a police officer at 11:25pm Nov. 29th. The suspect, 47, called dispatch and said that he was looking at a female officer sitting in a police vehicle and was going to kill her. Officers quickly located the vehicle and arrested the suspect.

Assault

Around 5pm on Dec. 4th, a 21-year-old man got into a verbal altercation with a man of unknown age at Turk and Taylor streets. A second man became involved, putting the victim into a chokehold before striking him in the head with a metal object. The suspects fled on foot; the victim was transported to the hospital with a possible broken jaw. No arrests were made.

Robberies

A man, 68, was sent to the hospital with a minor head injury after being attacked and robbed at 9:25pm Dec. 3rd on the 400 block of Ellis Street. The victim was walking when he was approached by one suspect, 30, and asked for money. The victim was then approached from behind by another suspect, who struck him in the back of the head with a blunt object. The victim’s property was taken, and neither suspect was arrested.

A similar incident occurred around 2am Nov. 29th in UN Plaza. The victim, a 36-year-old man, was approached from behind by a woman in her 40s. The suspect took the victim’s bag, while her accomplice, a man of about the same age, punched him in the face. The victim walked away without his property, and none of the suspects were arrested.

Yet another attack from behind occurred at 12:45am Nov. 27th at Sixth and Market. The victim, a 22-year-old man, was shoved from behind and fell to the ground. Three suspects, one woman and two men ages 18-20, stole his property and fled on foot. None were arrested.

A shop on the 900 block of Market Street was robbed at about 1:45pm Nov. 25th. The suspect, a man age 45-55, grabbed a sandwich and began to exit the store without paying. As an employee tried to stop him, the suspect turned around, pointed a knife at the victim and threatened him. The suspect then fled and was not arrested.

At about 10:50pm Nov. 25th, a man was attacked and robbed at Golden Gate and Taylor streets. The suspect, a 25-year-old man, approached the victim, 45, and pushed him to the ground. He then punched the suspect in the chest, took his wallet and fled. No arrest was made.

On Dec. 4th at 9:15pm, two women and two men, all in their 20s, were robbed and attacked by a group of six men and three women, also in their 20s, on the unit block of Eddy Street. The nine-member group confronted the victims and demanded their property; when they refused to give it up, they pushed them to the ground and began punching and kicking them before fleeing with one of the victims' smartphones. No arrests were made.

A man, 65, was attacked with his own cane at 10:25pm Nov. 25th on the 200 block of Golden Gate Ave. When the victim arrived home, the suspect, a man age 30-40, took the victim’s cane and hit him multiple times in the legs. The suspect then took the victim’s cell phone and money, and fled on foot toward Leavenworth Street.

Three women in their mid-20s were attacked and robbed at Powell and Market just before midnight on December 5th. The trio was walking when they were surrounded by another group of three, a man and two women in their mid- to late 20s.
