Medical students at UCSF's Parnassus campus marked International Human Rights Day today with a protest over the effects of racism and police violence on the mortality rates of people of color. "Institutional racism and violence are public health crises," noted UCSF student and San Francisco native Olivia Park.

The students joined other medical schools across the country as part of the #ActionsSpeakLouder and #WhiteCoats4BlackLives movements, which argue that health care institutions need to take a role in actively preventing and addressing institutional violence and health inequities.
