Tipster Bruce H. alerted us to a new road sign that's been installed in Alamo Square, offering advice to those who may be driving in to see the Painted Ladies. Although inconveniently unreadable in the daytime, at night, the 25-foot portable highway sign reads "LOCK CAR AVOID THEFT."

The sign is presumably a warning to tourists, given the rise in auto break-ins across the city. The SFPD has already been reaching out to warn tourists about the increased risk of a break-in via their hotel-centric "Park Smart" program.

There's no word yet on who's installed the sign. A representative from Super Bowl 50 said they were not involved in the matter.
