Last month, Bernie's Coffee, which has locations in Noe Valley and the FiDi, announced they'd be opening a third outpost in the former Philz Coffee location at 4023 18th St. (Philz moved to a larger location on Castro Street back in October.)

The shop, nicknamed "B3," opened over the weekend, just in time for Valentine's Day. Many friends and fans of owner Bernadette "Bernie" Melvin came out in support.

Opening day at B3!!!! (Three shops for this amazing Dynamo leader! ) we are just in time for the naked protest march!!!

Bernie's serves coffee from roaster Arnold Spinelli, who mentored Melvin after his company was acquired by Tully's in 1998. (Melvin worked for Tully's from 1998 to 2007, before opening Bernie's in Noe Valley.) The new shop will source food from local vendors, with morning pastries and cookies from Raison D'Etre, and empanadas and quiche from Nucha Empanadas.
