February in the Castro, while lighter on crime and safety news than other months, saw the usual spread of robberies and hot prowl. But the real news is in the Twin Peaks area, which saw a violent robbery in our last roundup and two incidents this time around, one of which was a double homicide. On a positive note, we also saw the LGBTQ community rally around a man who was attacked in the Marina for being gay. All reports come via the SFPD, unless otherwise noted.

Twin Peaks Double Homicide And Subsequent Arrest

Last weekend we reported on a triple-shooting at Twin Peaks early on Valentine's Day that left two dead and one in critical condition. We later received confirmation that a suspect, 26-year-old Richard Contreras of Richmond, had been arrested. There's still no word on the current condition of the third victim, but updates are likely.

Twin Peaks Robbery

A second incident happened at Twin Peaks on February 20th at 6:30am. A man, 26, was taking photos of the sunrise when three men of unknown ages approached him from behind, forcibly grabbed his camera, and fled in a vehicle in an unknown direction. No arrests were made.

LGBTQ Community Rallies Around Jeffery Lafayette

Many of you may have already heard about the attack on Jeffery Lafayette through Facebook, or multiple news sites. The 28-year-old was at HiFi Lounge in the Marina on Super Bowl weekend when he was attacked by roughly 20 men. They beat him and called him homophobic names.

In the wake of the attack, the LGBTQ community shared their support for Lafayette. A group calling themselves the "Gay Mafia," organized a gay night out at HiFi Lounge this past Friday to show support and solidarity for him.

Two-Car Crash Makes Mess At Jane Warner Plaza

On February 11th around 4:10pm, we received a tip from reader and Castro Community On Patrol officer Brian H. about a two-vehicle incident at Castro and Market that involved part of Jane Warner Plaza. Upon arriving at the scene, a witness told us that one car T-boned the other, which spun into the concrete barrier at the Plaza.

Police directed traffic as the two vehicles were towed away. There are no additional details on the people involved, or any possible damage done to the wall.

Overnight Hot Prowl

Between February 11th and 12th, a woman, 76, awoke to find that her home near 21st and Eureka had been entered and that the front door was wide open. She reported losing a box and pellet gun. No suspect was identified.

Dolores Park Knife Robbery

On February 18th at 7:27pm, a man, 25, was walking in Dolores Park when another man, 25-30, approached him with a knife. The suspect held the victim as he checked his pockets. He then stole the victim's wallet and money and pushed him to the ground as he fled the scene. No arrest was made.
