Community Meeting On Sex Offender Rehab Center Taking Place This MondayPhoto: Hoodline

A community meeting to address local concerns about the incoming sex offender rehab clinic is being held on Monday evening at the CPMC - Davies Campus.

News of the clinic opening up at 100 Church Street has raised concern from many nearby residents, who have reached out to both politicians and city planners for a halt on the proceedings.

Two days after we broke the news on the clinic's move, Supervisor Wiener requested a pause in the proceedings while community outreach was done. Earlier this week he reached out to the Board of Appeals in support of a jurisdiction review that was submitted by a Duboce Triangle resident:

"I am concerned about the process surrounding this project, given that the project sponsor does not appear to have engaged in meaningful community outreach (indeed, perhaps any community outreach) before moving forward with the project," Wiener wrote. "Regardless of one’s view on the topic, it is essential that the project sponsor engage in robust outreach. These neighbors are entitled to a full and transparent process."

Despite the recent requests for outreach, Sharper Future expressed to us that they followed all city protocols on the matter. In an interview we conducted with the founders late last month, Doctors Miller and Tobin told us that they'd met with Supervisor Wiener back in November, and that due to a long-standing medical zoning statute for 100 Church, did not need to apply for a conditional use hearing (which are usually used as forums for public opinion).

Representatives from Sharper Future will be in attendance at Monday's meeting to answer questions. The event is part of the Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association's regular community meeting, but in light of the recent controversy surrounding the clinic, they've shelved the rest of their agenda for another time.

The meeting will be held in the Level B Auditorium at the CPMC Davies campus. Seating will be limited, so it's suggested interested parties arrive at 7pm for the meeting's start. It will run until 9pm.
