Event Spotlight: Dave Eggers Art Show Opens Tomorrow In Hayes ValleyImage: Jules Maeght Gallery

Dave Eggers is best known as an author (A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering GeniusWhat Is the What, Zeitoun) and as the founder of McSweeney's and 826 Valencia. Two of his more recent books, A Hologram For The King and The Circle, are being turned into films this year, both of them starring Tom Hanks.

But even the most devoted Eggers fans may not know that he's also a visual artist. He'll be unveiling a solo show, Idaho, at Jules Maeght Gallery (149 Gough St.) on Thursday evening.

Eggers' oil and acrylic paintings primarily feature a wide array of animals, often accompanied by text. The show will also exhibit some of his sculptures, as well as various interactive installations. The entire exhibit was commissioned by Jules Maeght, and created specifically for the gallery.

“The Jules Maeght Gallery is such an inspiring space," Eggers said in a press release about the show. “Its size and light freed me up to take on some projects I’d been thinking about for a long time.”

The show's opening will take place from 6-9pm this Thursday, February 11th, and it will run through May 7th. All proceeds from the sale of Eggers' art will be donated to ScholarMatch, a nonprofit college counseling organization based in the Mission.

In addition to the art opening, here are some other art and culture events taking place in Hayes Valley over the next few days:
