Move over, Eatsa: The FiDi could be getting an automated, seasonal, healthy eating experience in the form of innovative vending machines.

A concept called FreshForks is looking to introduce machines containing dining and snacking options heavy on fruits and vegetables, and has registered at three locations in the FiDi: 47 Belden Place (which is the corporate address; a company spokesperson said no machine will be there), 298 Montgomery St. (at Pine) and 598 Market St. (in or near the Montgomery Street BART station). These locations are preliminary and have yet to be finalized, according to the spokesperson.

Instead of chips and candy bars in the machines, a sample menu on its website lists items like salads, Greek yogurt, hummus and veggies and fresh juice. The spokesperson said exact items are not set in stone yet. According to the site, "FreshForks prepares fresh meals each morning. Fine ingredients in unique to-go jars designed to provide more value for a competitive price."The site has a page called "Inspirations" that addresses the company's mission; it reads in part, "Inspire health through improvements to diet and exercise. The removal of refined grains and added sweeteners has restored many bodies to their preferred shape. Linked to the consumption of improved nutrient is your body's ability to prevent disease." The site also gives a number to call if you're interested in hosting a machine: (202) 854-1909.

The spokesperson reiterated that plans are still preliminary, and he couldn't divulge further details at this point. Keep an eye on the FreshForks Facebook page, and we'll update you when we learn more.
