Homeless Man Was Responsible For Catching Escaped Orange County ConvictsPhoto: Walter Thompson/Hoodline

Many have complained about the homeless presence at the Haight & Stanyan McDonald's, but one of the restaurant's homeless regulars was responsible for tipping off the SFPD to the escaped Orange County convicts who were apprehended near there last weekend.

According to the Chronicle, the man, 55-year-old Matthew Hay-Chapman, had been living in and around the Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park, following a string of personal misfortunes. A regular newspaper reader and computer user at the local library, he said he identified escapee Hossein Nayeri because he likes to stay up to date on the news.

As a result of his tip-off, Chapman, who's currently crashing on a friend's couch, could be eligible to receive up to $140,000 in reward money.
