The Kitty Chateau, the Castro cat boarding business we told you about back in July, is ready to start hosting local kitties, starting tomorrow.

After a few delays due to permit issues, The Kitty Chateau softly opens tomorrow (Valentine's Day) in the former Now, Voyager Travel location at 4406 18th St. Owners Chandra Maniedeo and her husband Troy Woodcox are inviting friends, family and any one else curious about the new feline bed and breakfast over to check out what they've been working on.

Maniedeo tells us that she "first thought of the idea of cat boarding a couple of years ago." The couple realized that it was really hard to find the perfect person to be a petsitter, and were tired of the stress it put on them. "Every time we went out of town, we scrambled to get ourselves together and our cat to his hotel and I kept thinking that if we could drop him off closer to home, it would be less stressful to all of us," she said.

The couple, who live above the business, thought that "having the small commercial space below our residence seemed like the perfect opportunity to create our own idea of a perfect cat hotel."

While there are plenty of pet boarding places in San Francisco, Kitty Chateau is looking to offer something a little bit different. Maniedeo tell us that "we aren't looking to compete, just to offer a different alternative for anyone interested."

This suite comes with a fish tank.

At The Kitty Chateau, they will have eight cat suites, seven of  which are approximately 20 square feet (the eighth is a bit larger, at 30-square feet). Thinking about how she would want her cat treated, Maniedeo says each individual suite will have "an individual TV, kitty cam, a heated granite shelf, activity wall utilizing all the vertical space, multiple bed options, recirculating water dish, and a few other things."

The Kitty Chateau will be appointment-only. Pet owners will be able to leave their cats for however long they need them to be taken care of, whether they've got a small construction project going on at home, are taking an extended vacation or changing residences.

As an added convenience, you'll be able to arrange the pick-up of your pet at any time, even if you're coming back from a late flight. Maniedeo says "since we live right upstairs, it will be easy for us to come down."

A television is in each kitty suite.

Services at The Kitty Chateau will focus on a stress-free "kitty vacation" environment. Although grooming services will not be provided, optional services will focus on fun things like special food options and extra playtime. For those especially friendly and comfortable cats, grooming services can be arranged with a groomer who will come onsite.

Along with taking care of pet owners' cats, The Kitty Chateau will also host one adoptable kitty, or possibly a pair, at a time. The details of the pet adoption services are still being worked out, and will not be available right away. In order to encourage pet adoptions, the plan is to have the adoptable kitty in the window so passersby can fall in love. You'll also be able to peek into two of the suites through the storefront window, but depending on the the personalities of the cats, sunscreens may be down to reduce stress.

Maniedeo tells us that they're still working out their pricing structure but anticipate being at a higher level than other cat boarders "due to the addition of included services and our boutique nature." Details will be available on their website, which they are hoping to launch soon.

The Kitty Chateau will be open seven days a week by appointment only.
