Ocean Beach Bonfires Will Remain Free, But Winter Ban On The WayPhoto: the_tahoe_guy/Flickr

Goods news for after-dark beachgoers: SFist reports that a Golden Gate National Recreation Area proposal to require $35 per-use permits for beach fires has been retracted, apparently in the face of public outcry, and that use of fire pits will remain free.

However, fires will be banned completely from November through February as part of a "winter rest period" to coincide with the season of Spare the Air days.
