Super Bowl City madness is almost halfway through. If you're sticking around SoMa through the weekend, there are plenty of festivities to help you dive into the football spirit — or completely ignore it.

But first, here's a bit more news from around the neighborhood.

SFMOMA Announces Inaugural Exhibitions

If you haven't already, mark your calendars: The expanded SFMOMA debuts Saturday, May 14th, 2016. With three times more exhibition space spread over seven floors, you'll want to plan your attack. And now that the full lineup of inaugural exhibitions is live on the museum's website, it's time to get started.

Here are a few of the highlights:

  • Pop, Minimal, and Figurative Art — Features the work of American pop and minimal artists from the 1960s and beyond.
  • California and the West — An exhibition exploring the "wild nature as a spiritual resource" as the landscape and photographic techniques evolved.
  • Model Behavior — A look at the many sketches and models Snøhetta architects created while devising the expanded SFMOMA.

One museum's community outreach assistant, who asked to remain anonymous in our report, said her organization has received roughly three patrons a day this week, despite launching a brand new exhibit.

But there was also consensus that there's no need to avoid the area entirely, especially if you're traveling on foot or by public. And there's a ton going on this weekend, including...

Hotel Utah Goes Buck Wild With Wild Game Month

Finally, carnivores looking to munch on something a little more exotic than buffalo chicken wings this Super Bowl Sunday may want to head down to The Hotel Utah Saloon. All month long, the 100-plus-year-old South of Market institution at Fourth and Bryant is serving dishes of wild game.

This week's delicacies are elk burgers and venison medallions. The next few weeks get even wilder with kangaroo burgers, gator bites, wild boar shoulder and more ...
