Update: Page Street Murals Safe, Fei Tian Academy Boarded UpPhoto: Camden Avery/Hoodline

Remember right before New Year's, when the Fei Tian Academy at 1950 Page St. was about to remove six mosaic murals installed by the city and artist Sharon Virtue?

According to Virtue, the decision came with a mere one-week notice (and on Christmas Eve, no less), and the murals were removed on Dec. 31st despite the artist's plea for a 10-day hold on the work, until she would be in town to supervise and help.

Virtue now tells us that the murals have been placed safely in storage with the Department of Public Works, where they await relocation somewhere in San Francisco.

Meanwhile, the front wall of the Fei Tian Academy, which spokespeople said was being opened up for windows, is still boarded up with plywood (above). We'll keep you posted when we hear more about the murals' next home.
