In a sign things are continuing to evolve in historic Jackson Square, we hear word that upscale brands A.P.C. and Aesop are taking over two former galleries.

Construction is going on at 407 Jackson St., formerly the home of North Point Gallery, which moved to Berkeley, and at 445 Jackson St., formerly the home of Kathleen Taylor–The Lotus Collection, which moved to Sausalito. We were told by a source involved who wasn't authorized to speak to the media that A.P.C. is taking over 407 Jackson St. within weeks, and Aesop is moving into 445 Jackson St. in the coming months.

A.P.C. is a French luxury ready-to-wear brand that sells pricey items such as $110 T-shirts and $425 sandals, while Aesop is a high-end skin care line out of Melbourne, Australia. A.P.C. sells its wares at other stores in the city and throughout the Bay Area, including Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom, but has no standalone store yet in San Francisco. Aesop has stores in the city at 2450 Fillmore St. in Pacific Heights and 2146 Chestnut St. in the Marina.

These additions—if they indeed open—would fit in with the changes in the district, which has seen several art and antique galleries leave and tony fashion boutiques and tailors move in recently. They include Isabel Marant, JAKE Clothing and Shinola. We first reported on this transformation back in May of 2015.

JAKE Clothing is open at 619 Sansome St.

We reached out to the media contacts for both companies, and A.P.C. didn't respond to our inquiries. A representative for Aesop emailed to say, "We will respectfully have to decline to comment on this occasion, as at this time we do not have any information in regards to an Aesop store opening at the location you have provided."

However, when we asked about Shinola moving into the Belli Building last year, a representative flat-out told us it was not true, and a few weeks later, we got an email from the company saying the opposite.

We'll continue to keep our eyes open in the neighborhood (if you spot any new happenings around the neighborhood, you can let us know right here.)
