Body Discovered In Golden Gate Park This Morning; Police Investigating [Updated]Image: Google Maps

This morning at 7:57am, officers from SFPD and technicians from the Medical Examiner's office responded to a report of a body discovered near Chain of Lakes & Martin Luther King Blvd. in Golden Gate Park.

Officials haven't yet shared any details about the individual who was discovered, or the apparent cause of death, but a witness at the scene believes the body may have been found in the water.

If the ME's office determines that the death was a homicide, police will release additional information as they start an investigation. Typically, the Medical Examiner releases autopsy results a few weeks after an unexplained death.

We'll update this story as more information becomes available.

Update, 3/3: The body has been identified as that of Joseph Munoz, 45, of Sausalito. The Examiner reports police told reporters that they do not suspect foul play was involved.
