Lava Mae will be providing free showers to homeless neighbors until 2pm today at the corner of Golden Gate and Jones—behind 1066 Market St. and the adjacent surface parking lot.

The nonprofit, which adapts retired city buses into showers and toilets on wheels for those in need, is partnering with property owner Shorenstein Residential and St. Anthony's to test this location, with the possibility of it becoming a regular stop.

While the potential plans are being ironed out, Shorenstein Residential is also heading to the Planning Commission this Thursday afternoon, with hopes of securing approval to construct a 12-story mixed-use residential building with 304 units on the site.

The Planning Commission will be considering an appeal of the plan's environmental impact review, which argues that the EIR does not adequately address the cumulative impact of market-rate housing and hotel development planned in the area, as well as the planning underway to rezone the area as the Mid-Market Arts & Education Special Use District.
