This morning, one week after a 72-hour abatement order was posted in the area, the city forced the remaining campers on Division Street to disperse.
The Examiner reports that the sweep began at 4:30am and targeted both Division Street and Showplace Square.
KQED adds that Public Works cleaning crews were accompanied by police officers and roughly 30 tents were confiscated from Division Street from Eighth to 13th streets. While displaced campers were cooperative, the outlet reported that many did not have clear plans as to where they were headed next, while one had already scoped out an alternative location nearby on South Van Ness.

The Examiner also notes that Public Works has placed barriers along the sidewalk on Division Street to prevent tents from returning.
“We really want to make it clear tents are not to come back to this area. It’s a public health nuisance," Public Works Spokesperson Rachel Gordon told the paper.
