Upper Haight Infrastructure Project Resumes (Again) TodayPhoto: Nuala Sawyer/Hoodline

Following last month's announcement that work will resume on the beleaguered Haight Street infrastructure project, SF Public Works has officially announced that the project will kick off its next phase this morning, along with some details on its new timeline.

This morning, crews will begin "inspecting and videotaping the sewer main and laterals" so that the new subcontractors can assess the current state of things, and get an idea of what work was completed (and whether it was done correctly), DPW public affairs officer Alex Murillo told us via email. The previous subcontractor, Synergy, was fired by the city after numerous gas leaks and sinkholes related to the project.

This inspection phase should take about five days, and, according to Murillo, will have minimal impact on surrounding businesses and residents, aside from parking.

Starting next Wednesday, March 16th, crews will open up the trench along Haight to resume work, which means loud noises and open asphalt. The work should continue through about March 21st (including Saturday the 19th), when crews will move further east down Haight, into the Lower Haight.

The schedule, of course, could be impacted by the torrential downpours we've been seeing, Murillo said. We'll keep you posted if/when things change, and you can also check for updates on the project at this link. Contact 311 if you see anything wonky.
