Event Spotlight: Full Moon Tour Of The Botanical Garden TonightPhoto by Patsy Kobe via SFBG

If you're looking for something to spice up your nightlife this Earth Day, the San Francisco Botanical Garden is hosting an after-hours moonlight tour of its garden tonight.

The tour ($20 for members, $25 for non-members) will cover the garden from 7-9pm, and will be guided by Botanical Garden veterans and include light refreshments.

The moonlight walks aren't brand-new for the Botanical Garden—and they'll continue to happen over the summer—but the April full moon, which falls tonight, will be a great chance to see the spring bloom yielded by winter rains.

What exactly is in store, you wonder?

Jessica Barzelay, the garden's director of learning and engagement, said in an email, "Springtime in the garden is dynamic, with new shows every week"; this week's blooms will include Douglas iris and buckeye in the Garden of California Natives.

There are no night-bloomers in the garden at the moment, Barzelay said, "but the tour will pass by incredibly fragrant specimens like the western azalea."

And Brendan Lange, the garden's director of visitor experience, talked with some of the garden's docents about what walkers might expect this week.

"White flowers are particularly nice at night under the full moon," he said via email, "and the white wisteria climbing along the Zellerbach Garden pergolas should be gorgeous, as well as the unique dove tree and giant calla lily in the Temperate Asia collection."

You're advised to bring your own flashlight; the walk occurs if the sky is foggy or clear, and heavy rain, which would cancel the event, isn't in the forecast for tonight.

As if that's not enough, here's a host of other weekend happenings around the Haight for your consideration. (For Inner Sunset events, head over here.)

If you have an event you'd like to add to our events calendar, you can submit it here for free. If approved, your event will appear on our new calendar and within the Hoodline news feed, which is seen by thousands of local readers every day.
