Walk San Francisco wants everyone to get moving on Thursday morning, during its fourth annual Walk to Work Day event. That means along with a bit of exercise, you could get some fun rewards. Even if you take the bus, Muni or BART, the group urges everyone to get off transit early and walk at least 15 minutes of their morning commute.
The event has a map of hubs shows where you can stop and get everything from free Clipper cards, snack bars and coffee to T-shirts, totes and stickers. Although there are freebies citywide, the FiDi and Mid-Market are especially concentrated areas for giveaways. Use the hashtag #Walk2Work for random prize drawings, as well as contests for the “Longest Commute,” “Most Interesting Sight,” and “Best Shoe Bling.”
You can also connect with many of the district supervisors, including Aaron Peskin, who'll be hoofing it at least partway to City Hall. He and aide Sunny Angulo will start at 8am Thursday at the Chinatown Community Development Center at 655 Clay St. They'll look at the pedestrian safety work happening in District 3 near Kearny and Clay streets and on Broadway, and memorialize neighbors lost to dangerous driving behavior.
The event will end at City Hall with a press conference featuring the supervisors, WalkSF executive director Nicole Ferrara, SFMTA Director Ed Reiskin, District Attorney George Gascón, SFPD Chief Greg Suhr, SFFD Chief Joanne Hayes-White and more.
