From art performances and street fairs to comedy and community events, there's plenty to keep you busy in North Beach this weekend.

It all starts on Friday at the Beat Museum (540 Broadway), which is closing out National Poetry Month with a free Celebration of Haiku event. Hosted by Lean Frog & Mother Hen Publications, the event will celebrate the Bay Area haiku movement of the '50s, with readings, a book signing for Haiku Revisited, Volume 2, and music by Lucho on sax and Toku Woo on guitar.

If you're looking for even more performance, local songstress Carol Peters and her band the Retrofits will also be playing on Friday night at Doc's Lab. Check out our profile of Peters to learn more about her and her show, "Champagne Tales."

At 11:30am on Saturday morning, there's a District 3 Community Forum at the City College Chinatown/North Beach Center (808 Kearny St.) Locals can attend hear about the work Assembly member David Chiu has been doing for the district and the larger community in Sacramento. Supervisor Aaron Peskin will also attend. If you'd like to RSVP or if you have questions, please contact Jennifer Kwart at jennifer.kwart [at] asm [dot] ca [dot] gov or call (415) 557-3013.

Also on Saturday, you can take advantage of the beautiful weather with a free historic walking tour of Fort Mason. Meet at the Gatehouse around 1pm for a stroll through the Center for Arts & Culture campus and adjacent historical area, with a special focus on the Fort's origins as a military post and the San Francisco Port of Embarkation for troops shipping out during World War II.
