This morning, the San Francisco Zoo announced the arrival of a female giraffe calf, born Friday, April 8th at 9:40am. The calf, who doesn't yet have a name, took her first steps within 30 minutes of birth, and is already over six feet tall.
Here she is with mom Barbro at just five hours old:
The four-day-old calf will be the seventh giraffe in the herd, joining sister Sarah, dad Floyd and others. She's set to make her public debut in the coming days, after mother and calf have some private time to bond.
