This afternoon at Ocean Beach, officers from Taraval Station protected a stranded baby seal. he juvenile pinniped was separated from his mother, who was likely in the water searching for food.

According to a Twitter post by SFPD, police safeguarded the baby seal from crows and off-leash dogs until a crew from Sausalito's Marine Mammal Center arrived to take charge.

If you find a stranded seal pup, don't handle the animal or try to return it to the water. Instead, keep a minimum distance of 50 feet and contact the MMC by calling (415) 289-SEAL.
