In the past week-and-a-half, this quiet little sidewalk garden cropped up on the southeast corner of Hayes and Shrader, just off the Panhandle Park. We don't know exactly who installed it or why, but we're certainly glad.

It joins several other small oases in our local urban landscape, including the guerrilla garden at the corner of Page and Cole, the one on the east side of Shrader between Page and Haight, the extended flowering porch and plantings on the northeast corner of Shrader and Page, and the veggie box on Page between Cole and Clayton.

The new plot includes some alpine strawberries, purple flax, and other plants currently in bloom. Stop by and say "hello."

UPDATE, 3:20pm: Thanks to tipster Linda E. we now know the garden was installed by Ellyn Shea of Garden Guidence; the landlord was repairing cracked sidewalk and decided to make a major upgrade.
