Victoria Manalo Draves Park, on Folsom Street between Sixth and Seventh, is currently closed following a stabbing around noon today.

According to an officer on the scene, the victim was stabbed in the chest and transferred to the hospital. The officer did not know the severity of the injury.

One suspect was reportedly detained by responding officers.

The park's Folsom Street entrance is currently taped off as crime scene investigators canvass the crime scene. The park will reopen later today following the investigation.

Over the past few months, crime and safety in and around Victoria Manalo Draves Park has been a major concern for South of Market residents. In October, Rudy Ascercion, chair of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations and former executive director of the West Bay Pilipino Multi-Service Center in SoMa, told us that criminal activity taking place in the park, one of the neighborhood's few green spaces, was on the rise

Speaking with the Chronicle, Adam Mesnick, owner of Deli Board at Russ and Folsom, shared similar concerns, noting that the level of drugs, crime and drinking in the area has been getting out of handespecially within the park's public restroom.

Neighbors with concerns about crime and safety around the neighborhood may want to make time to attend tonight's monthly community meeting with newly-appointed Southern Station Captain Daryl Fong. The meeting kicks off at 6:30pm at The Arc of San Francisco, 1500 Howard St.
